Welcome to the Wild Species Web Site
Ensuring human actions don't drive species to extinction in Canada means knowing the status of species across the length and breadth of the nation - which species are secure for now, which to keep an eye on, and which need to be formally assessed and perhaps protected. The Wild Species reports provide an overview of the status of Canada's species. They bring the results of provincial, territorial, and federal monitoring efforts onto a single platform for the first time. Wild Species reports are released every five years and Wild Species 2005 is now available. This is the commitment of all of Canada's Ministers responsible for wildlife under the Accord for the Protection of Species At Risk. At this Web site you can download copies of Wild Species 2000 and Wild Species 2005. You can also view the updated 2002 general status ranks for butterflies. In addition, you can browse information for species groups and data summaries of their status in Canada, or build your own dataset for the species and regions you choose. |
